Outgoing District Executive Committee Commended for Its Contribution to Development
On 30 October 2026, a formal handover ceremony was held in the Gakenke District meeting Hall between Ms. Mukandayisenga Vestine, the outgoing Mayor of Gakenke District, and Ms. Nankunda Jolly, the District Executive Secretary, who will temporarily assume the responsibilities of the Mayor.
The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Ndacyayisenga Scholastique, the outgoing District Council Secretary, representing the outgoing President of the District Council (2021–2026). It was attended by outgoing District Council members, members of the outgoing District Executive Committee, District staff, Sector Executive Secretaries and representatives of security organs.
The handover comes ahead of the election of a new District Executive Committee, scheduled for November 2026. During this transitional period, the District Executive Secretary will continue carrying out her regular responsibilities while temporarily assuming the duties of the Mayor to ensure continuity in the District's operations and service delivery.
During the ceremony, appreciation was expressed to the outgoing District Executive Committee and District Council for their commitment, dedication and contribution to Gakenke District's development throughout their five-year term.
Those entrusted with temporary responsibilities were urged to serve with commitment, accountability and cooperation, ensuring that ongoing development initiatives, public service delivery and performance targets continue without interruption.
The transition is intended to ensure continuity in local governance and maintain the smooth functioning of District activities as Gakenke prepares for the election of its new Executive Committee in November 2026.
