163 Youth Graduated from Vocational Training Programmes in Gakenke
A total of 163 students graduated from short-term vocational training programmes at Our Sisters Opportunities (@oso_oursisters) Vocational Training School, located in Gakenke Sector, Gakenke District, on Thursday, 6 August 2026, receiving certificates that qualify them to enter the labour market or start their own businesses.
The students completed training in fashion design and tailoring, entrepreneurship, soap production, and information technology. This marks the fifth graduation cohort from the institution, which has so far equipped more than 600 graduates with practical, market driven vocational skills. The graduation ceremony was attended by Gakenke District Mayor, Vestine Mukandayisenga, French Ambassador to Rwanda @AurelieRG, parents, security officials, @RTB_Rwanda representatives and development partners supporting OSO Our Sisters’ Opportunity, alongside other stakeholders in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
Speakers underscored the importance of practical vocational skills in empowering young people to become self reliant, create jobs, foster innovation, and contribute to Rwanda's socio economic transformation.
Gakenke District reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key pathway to expanding employment opportunities, strengthening entrepreneurship, and equipping youth with skills that respond to labour market demands.
Over the past three years, more than 900 students have graduated from short-term vocational training programmes across the district, gaining practical skills that support self-employment and sustainable livelihoods.
