On Tuesday 04, August 2026, Gakenke District hosted the closing ceremony of the Gendana Konti campaign, a Nationwide initiative designed to empower women by expanding their access to and use of digital financial services.

Organized by the National Bank of Rwanda, the campaign promotes the use of mobile phone based financial services for payments and other transactions, with the aim of enhancing women's financial independence, advancing financial inclusion, and strengthening household economic resilience.

The event brought together women from across Gakenke District, alongside key stakeholders committed to promoting digital financial inclusion in Rwanda. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Northern Province, Mugabowagahunde Maurice, the Mayor of Gakenke District, Mukandayisenga Vestine, representatives of the National Bank of Rwanda, and officials from MTN Rwanda, Airtel Rwanda and NCBA Bank Rwanda.

The participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding access to secure, affordable, and inclusive digital financial services for all Rwandans. \

The Gendana Konti campaign is part of Rwanda's broader efforts to increase women's participation in the formal financial sector and accelerate the adoption of cashless payment systems as a catalyst for inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development.
