Gakenke Launches #TwagiyeKashiresi Campaign to Promote Cashless Payments

[Translate to English:]

On 2 October 2026, Gakenke District hosted the #TwagiyeKashiresi campaign at Gakenke Centre, aimed at encouraging residents and businesses to adopt digital payment solutions and reduce the use of cash in commercial transactions and other services.

The campaign placed a particular focus on eKash, a digital payment solution that facilitates the transfer and receipt of funds between bank accounts and mobile money accounts at an affordable cost. Through eKash, users can transfer up to RWF 10 million for a fee of RWF 20.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Gakenke District, Mukandayisenga Vestine, together with representatives from the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR), the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, RSwitch, financial institutions, and telecommunications and financial service providers.

The campaign also featured entertainers Anitha Pendo and Rusine, who engaged participants while delivering messages on the benefits of using digital payment solutions.

Residents were given an opportunity to ask questions and participate in quizzes on the use of digital financial services, with prizes awarded to those who provided correct answers. Digital Ambassadors (Intore mu Ikoranabuhanga) were also present to provide practical guidance and help residents understand how to send and receive money using digital platforms.

Participants were encouraged to embrace cashless payment solutions to make financial services more convenient, secure, and accessible, while contributing to the growth of a technology-driven economy. They were also reminded to protect themselves from financial fraud and to avoid illicit drugs and substandard alcoholic beverages.
