Health Services in Gakenke District
Gakenke District has three hospitals: Nemba Hospital, Ruli Hospital, and Gatonde Hospital. The District also has 23 Health Centers, 58 Community Health Posts (postes de santé communautaire), and 8 additional facilities under construction that are not yet fully operational. Hospitals provide a wide range of services, many of which require specialized knowledge and equipment.
Primary Health Services
Primary healthcare services are provided at Health Centers, where patients first consult nurses. If a patient’s condition exceeds the capacity of the Health Center, they are referred to the District hospitals for further care.
Other services provided at the Health Centers include:
Maternal and Child Health Services: Pregnant women and children receive vaccinations and health counseling.
Nutrition and Social Welfare Services: Children affected by malnutrition receive specialized care and support.
