Key services Provided by Health Unit

In the health sector, Gakenke District has three hospitals: Nemba Hospital, Ruli Hospital, and Gatonde Hospital. The District also has 23 Health Centers, 58 Community Health Posts (postes de santé communautaire), and 8 other health facilities that are still under construction and not yet fully operational. The hospitals provide a wide range of services, many of which require specialized knowledge and equipment.

 

Health Services in Gakenke District

Primary Health Services

 

Primary healthcare services are provided at Health Centers, where patients first consult nurses. If a patient’s condition exceeds the capacity of the Health Center, they are referred to the District hospitals for further care.

 

Other services provided at the Health Centers include:

 

Maternal and Child Health Services: Pregnant women and children receive vaccinations and health counseling.

 

Nutrition and Social Welfare Services: Children affected by malnutrition receive specialized care and support.
