Nyabarongo II Multipurpose project Reaches 75% Completion

Construction works for the Nyabarongo II Multipurpose project have reached 75% completion, with the power plant expected to be completed by the end of 2027. Upon completion, the hydropower facility will generate 43.5 megawatts (MW) of electricity, contributing to Rwanda’s power generation capacity and supporting national development through increased access to reliable and sufficient electricity for households, businesses, and various economic activities. Beyond electricity generation, the project will deliver additional benefits, including the creation of a reservoir that will support transport activities, promote tourism development, and enhance agricultural productivity through irrigation water supply. The project will also contribute to improving water availability for communities. Relevant authorities and stakeholders continue to closely monitor the implementation of the project to ensure that the remaining works are completed within the planned timeframe.
