In Gakenke District the population participated impressively in the just concluded parliamentary election with 99.73% of the registered voters participating. The population in the district also participated greatly in the national identity card photographing exercise with a 94% participation range.
The District of Gakenke have put in place measures to fight the genocide ideology like establishing anti-genocide clubs in primary and secondary schools, anti-genocide focal points in each primary and secondary school, anti-genocide committees in the whole district administrative structure starting from the village level up to the district level and anti-genocide inscriptions on all commercial buildings.
