The District of Gakenke indulges in trade through shops, small bars, restaurants and some hotels. There are some markets of which some are well constructed and others still operate without any roofing and traders have to endure the risk of rain and sun throughout the day. There are also micro finance institutions, banks and credit and saving cooperatives. The district also trades with the neighboring districts especially in agricultural products.
